Description:

Even if they don’t know her personally, everyone in Somerset, New Hampshire knows that StClair Upton loves animals. “That’s why she spends so much time studying animal behavior and working with people and their problem pets, even the worst ones," the town gossips tell newcomers. But when StClair meets Monica Sonco and her pit bull, Harley, the veterinarian’s semi-reclusive, animal-loving world begins to wobble wildly on its axis. Monica obviously loves Harley, and the dog obviously is devoted to her, but the relationship is wrong. All wrong. But before StClair can help Monica make it right, the young woman's mangled body is discovered with the blood-soaked dog standing over her. As StClair tries to discover who killed her client, she finds herself relentlessly drawn into a high-tech animal conspiracy that takes her so deep into the dark recesses of the human-animal bond, she fears she will never find her way out.

Great fun [ No Rating ] 16 Mar 2008
Dr. Myrna Milani’s A Beastly Business” is fast-paced and clever, a well-written and suspenseful mystery peopled with characters you’d like to hang out with, and, if you live in New England, you may have met. At least you would with St.Clair Upton, a self-admitted middle aged woman veterinarian and animal behaviorist. She sets out to solve a murder whose prime suspect is the victim’s own dog. I will not risk spoiling the story, except to say that you will enjoy St.Clair’s relationships with beings four-legged and two, you’ll thrill to her adventurousness and sometimes you’ll laugh aloud. I can’t imagine a more pleasant day than relaxing with, and being transported by, this book.

Murder...romance...mystery...and incredible insights into behavior and the human/animal bond from a most believable and "real person" protagonist... Who could not identify with StClair Upton as she shares her innermost thoughts and emotions while solving a baffling mystery?

Two thumbs up and SIX stars for BEASTLY BUSINESS!
